Fall League registration opened this morning, and you all wasted absolutely no time. More than half the spots are already gone.

We’ll be playing Wednesday nights after school is back in session and wrapping things up before MEA weekend. Four weeks. Good people. Good competition. Good vibes.

One of the many reasons @kate_watson_24 is cool? She can wear a visor and somehow make it look effortless.

The good news? Kate’s also nice as hell and has agreed to teach the rest of us.

So stay tuned for our upcoming instructional reel: How to Wear a Visor Like Kate.

Just give us a minute to figure out how to make an instructional reel.

July League, Week One. Fun was had.

July League, Week One. Fun was had.

Last night kicked off Week One of July League, and what a way to start. Twelve tables of mahjong enthusiasts filled Wandering Leaf for a night of good games, new faces, and plenty of opinions about Claire’s duck shorts.

Everyone got their games in. We called a hand or two dead, but mostly we let things go, lived a little, and remembered why we love League in the first place.

As always, @wanderingleafbrewing was an incredible host. Their team simply can’t be beat.

The leaderboard is already taking shape, but don’t read too much into Week One. There are plenty of people right on the heels of our current leaders, and this thing is wide open.

And can we talk about @oconnome? She got her very first mahjong and landed on the leaderboard. Absolute shark. Or, loon? Badass.

Here’s hoping next week brings Anne’s long-awaited mahjong hat, @rachmarti finally gets the local legend recognition she deserves, @borchersra keeps kicking butt, and @caweber63 and @madewithjennerousity remember that they are very good friends and…it’s just a game. 😉

Whether you’re a League regular, a sub jumping in to help keep things running, or the guy texting us hoping for a last-minute empty seat, thank you. You are what makes this community so special, and we couldn’t be more grateful to spend our Wednesday nights with you.

Darn Knit Anyway in Stillwater is so much more than a yarn shop. It’s a crafting community and gathering place—beautiful, calm, welcoming, and full of absolute treasures. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay awhile. If you haven’t been yet, go check it out.

Thank you for having us, Aimee. We’re blown away by the community you’ve built and the warmth you’ve created. It was such a joy to spend the evening with you all.

Last night we hosted the Proud Loon Rambler at @badweatherbrew, an open play celebrating summer, Pride, and, mostly, an excuse to get together and play some mahjong.

But it was also something more. Saint City Mahjong is 100% women-owned, and one of those two women just happens to be married to another woman.

When we started this little club, we hoped we’d create a place where people could show up exactly as they are. A place where strangers become friends, where everyone pulls up a chair, and where kindness matters more than competition.

So, seeing so many of you show up last night meant more than we can really put into words.

Thank you for spending your evening with us. Thank you for playing with us, celebrating with us, and helping us build the kind of community that can sometimes feel rare: one where people feel seen and included.

No matter who you love, what your family looks like, or what path brought you to one of our tables, there’s a seat for you here.

Sure, we kept score and called a hand or two dead. But mostly, we met new friends, sharpened our game, laughed a lot, and kept building this little community that means so much to us.

It was Week Three and people came to play. A few players cracked the 100-point mark, putting some serious pressure on the leaderboard. We’ve seen some shake-ups, some shake-downs, and honestly? Week Four remains anybody’s game. @wanderingleafbrewing continues to be a beautiful, safe, and fun place to hang and @pauliec1210 can’t possibly be cooler.

For those of you currently on this list: don’t get too comfortable. There are a lot of people right on your heels.

But as always, League is about so much more than the leaderboard. We appreciate every single one of you for showing up week after week and making this such a fun thing to be a part of.

A special shoutout to @angeliquemcd and Jason for spending their wedding anniversary with us, and to @allison_miranda and @lorimiranda for continuing to bring the Nicest Guy every week. Chump Club also had a strong showing this week and has firmly worked its way into the middle of the pack. Progress is progress.

We’re incredibly proud of this community—the friendships being built, the laughter around the tables, and the way you all keep showing up for each other.

Because suddenly lunch breaks get a lot more interesting, happy hours come with a side of strategy, and “circle back next week” might actually mean gathering around a mahjong table.

There’s probably a lesson in there.

Sometimes the best advice for new players is: be more like Felix.

Stop overthinking every discard. Stop worrying about every possible pivot. It’s just a game.

Pick a plan (though maybe wait until after you’ve been dealt your tiles), and give it a shot.

You might win. You might lose.

But honestly, who really cares?

You showed up. You sat down at the table. You spent an evening with other people doing something joyful.

That’s the good stuff.

The tiles go back in the wall. The scores get forgotten. But the people? The laughter? The community? That’s the part that lasts.

Be a little more like Felix. 🀄️❤️
